What is an Esky?
An esky is a small portable ice chest, although in Australia the word esky can mean any kind of insulated storage container.
Eskies are often used by sportspeople who need to keep food and drinks cold. In the United States, they are also known as coolers, ice chests, or cool boxes.
Eskies have been around since the early 1900s. The first eskies were made of wood and shaped like a box with a lid.
These wooden eskies had a wireframe inside that could be filled with ice and kept the food cold. Plastic eskies replaced the wooden ones after World War II because the plastic was cheaper to make and lasted longer, it wasn’t until the 1970s that plastic became popular for making eskies.
This means that a lot of people have grown up using an esky at picnics and barbecues and on holidays at the beach or in the mountains.

Your esky should fit into your vehicle but also have enough space inside to store all your food and drinks.

The cooling time differs from model to model and depends on the outside temperature of where you plan to use it. Obviously, if you’re using it at night when it’s colder, it will take longer than during the day when it’s warmer, especially if there is direct sunlight during the day.
TIP 3: Price.
Prices for the same portable ice chest vary based on brand and size so make sure you know what you want before you shop so that you can find the right price point.
TIP 4: Materials.
Look for models made with stainless steel so they don’t rust or leak and rubber seals to keep out water and insects.
